I am an assistant professor of English at John Carroll University, in Cleveland. My training is in, on the one hand, mathematics (at the undergraduate level) and, on the other hand, medieval studies (at the graduate level), which may lead you to wonder how I ended up in an English department. I tend to work in the intersection of the study of books and the study of languages, and my primary expertise is in topics related to medieval England. I am particularly interested in how people think about languages (their own and those utterly unknown) and about using books; this blog will explore ideas from my work in these fields.
